A British Airways Boeing 747-400 departs Heathrow during the Summer of 2003. The ‘Jumbo’ was the mainstay of BA’s long-haul operation for many years with 50 of the type in its fleet – making BA the largest operator of the type in the world. The last of these was retired in 2020 with newer types start replacing them.
In the centre of the painting, a building site shows work on the new Terminal 5 site has started. It will be another five years before the Terminal is opened by Queen Elizabeth II in March 2008. Oil on canvas.
